Charles Boyer was a French American stage and motion-picture actor known for playing the archetypal suave French tlover. His greatest performances were romantic dramas such as The Garden of Allah (1936), Algiers (1938), and Love Affair (1939), as well as the legendary psychological thriller Gaslight (1944), for which Boyer won an Oscar nomination for Best Actor and Ingrid Bergman won an Oscar for Best Actress.
